The Sentinel, Catachan style.

Here it is in all its glory. My first mechanized unit and the only one in my 500 point list. Lets just start out with saying that thank god my catachan army is mostly grunts foot slugging it out. Even tho i did enjoy painting it, this one was very stressing for me. Maybe it wasn't the paint job in it self, but my first try on weathering anything but my first terrain(which i did 1 day earlier) that freaked me out.

That being said, i am pretty satisfied how the sentinel came out. I had to go through it several times after i thought i was done, cause taking still pictures is a unforgiving judge... I found out some very nice stuff that i need to work more with, specially on my terrain pieces. I still need to find my approach to painting armor. I got it almost nailed down for now, but i need the routine before i can improve it. However for now that will do.

I might go back and weather my weapons on my marines, i kinda like the effects that i put on the sentinel, with paint and metal scraped of(all tho lots of space to improve this!) and i think it gives a natural look to metal that have been been roughed up. However i am not sure how it will look on weapons like lasguns etc. Might try it out on the first two veterans i will paint up for my veteran squad.

On another subject! I have a bunch of old school metal models of the old Catachans on the way from the UK. I bought them fairly cheap from ebay and i am very exited about painting them up. I love the old metal models, they where one of the foundations to why i started collecting the Catachans. Will get you briefed out on the next months goal as soon as i make up my mind what it will be.

As always i would love some feedback if theres anything i can improve on my blog or painting or even modeling.

2nd HWT finished.

Finally got my 2nd heavy weapons team painted up. The plan was originally to paint the sentinel first, but painting mech for the first time is rather scary, especially after having almost 3 weeks dry period from painting. Well finally i got some time to spare for painting and i m gonna get the sentinel finished to during the week.

I went a bit overboard on the team tho, exited about making the base for it, i ended up tweaking it a bit to far. I put a lasgun on the rock, which where to show the right guy putting it down and hurrying to set up the auto cannon with his mate. However that ended up being a bit of an error, since the lasgun where to high up and ate up some of the space where the auto cannon bulk where to be. Which resulted in the auto cannon being to high and not fitting perfectly with the crew anymore.

Overall i am very happy with it. I don't think you notice that much and its my first "conversion". Which means my first model which i didn't put together like they come in the pack. I'm planning on making the 3rd one with 2 crew moving with the auto cannon.

This experience gave me a taste of how different and original you can make your army with these plastic minis, so this will for sure not be my last conversion! Next up comes the sentinel..

Sentinel and heavyweapons team WIP

Time for some updates!
I have had a rather busy time with my girlfriends parents coming to visit from Romania and the death of my grandfather.. Easy to say its been a rather hard time with the ladder and happy but busy time with the first.

I did manage some work on my monthly goal which will be a scout sentinel for my 500 point list. I did not glue on the roof yet to make it easier to paint the pilot and the insides. This will be my first real vehicle and i am planning to add battle damage, weathering and personalize it. Suffice to say i got lots of plans on this and i cant wait to get started painting it!

The second thing i am working on at the moment is a another heavy weapons team and after reading a very motivating blog with a guy collecting the same army i got inspired to try a new approach on my own army.

So without further delay heres my second HWT. Instead of having 3 HWT sitting in attacking mode, i wanted this setup to reflect the way these teams work in the jungle. The HWT teams carry these heavy weapons out in the jungle to set em up when a bigger punch is needed. So i wanted one of my HWT to show em putting the weapon up ready for assault. I wanted this team to look like they are hurried to set it up(maybe they got some nasty incoming in the bushes :)).

Now the model is not finished put together and i do not want to glue them together before painting them since it will be much more difficult to paint together then separate. The Auto cannon will be glued in the handle to the guy pointing and the barrel will be lying in the two hands of the guy holding it. also the bases will be stripped and the two catachans will be glue to the big base. Suffice to say i am very pleased about this and i cant wait to paint them after the sentinel.

I am also working on some terrain which you will see a quick glimt of in my latest youtube movie on my channel "zacret"
